A Halo Themed Wedding?

Halo wedding:

Yes, it actually happened, a Halo themed wedding with Master Chief performing the ceremony. Desirai Labrada, 29, and her boyfriend John Henry, 27, decided they wanted to do something different for their wedding. She met John totally by chance, he'd let a roommate play on his gamer tag while he was away, and when he came back, there were friends on his list that he didn't recognize so he sent out messages to them asking where he'd met them. One of them was Desirai, and her gamertag caught his interest. He asked her if they could play some time and they ended up playing on a day-to-day basis. He lived in Florida and she was in New York.

He proposed to her in a restaurant on their three-year anniversary. They had already been talking about getting married and making the wedding Halo themed. "I think discussing my ideas for a Halo wedding was my incredibly awkward way of telling John I was ready to get married" says Desirai.

No one seems to think it's odd that the couple who met on the beach has a beach wedding or has sand dollar place holders and starfish favors. The only difference for us is that they met on the beaches of Zanzibar! Actually, she's kidding, they don’t really remember the first map they played on. The point is, they may not have met if it wasn’t for Halo. "I felt that deserved to be celebrated during our wedding."

One of Desirai's original ideas was for them to be dressed as characters from the game, but in her head, there would only ever be one wedding, and that being the case, the girl in me couldn’t miss out on wearing a wedding dress.

"I looked at our wedding as a creative challenge. How do I incorporate a violent video game into a wedding without losing the romantic girly wedding parts or disappointing my family? My solution was to add subtle Halo touches like the Halo emblem on my sleeves and John's tie, the orchestra music from the Halo score, and naming the tables after Halo maps. I wanted to have my cake and eat it too: a classy wedding that represented us as gamers while celebrating what brought us together. I know, I know… what about Master Chief performing the ceremony? I realize that wasn’t very subtle, but he actually came into the picture much later. Either way, I think my family would have had a much more violent reaction to me not wearing a wedding dress than Master Chief marrying us."

After the reception they had a bride-versus-groom Halo tournament in place of the first dance. To keep with the theme, they wanted to find a creative way to give away the bouquet and garter. So the guys and girls fought each other in a slayer match for them. They liked the idea of people having to earn the garter or bouquet instead of just reaching up and catching it. Who won? John did…by two kills.
